Domestic goodness

I made pretty damn-good hummus today. It's so so easy to make - put all the ingredients in a bowl and blend!

1 tin chick peas with some of the liquid from the can
a good glug of oil
3 cloves of garlic
juice of a lemon
some pepper
coriander is optional

Aishling came over and we baked banana muffins and flapjacks. Katie arrived just as they were coming out of the oven, so we ate them while watching Julie & Julia. Such an appropriate film to watch after a day of cooking - it's about a writer who undertakes to cook all the recipes in Julia Child's first book, in a year. That's 524 recipes in 365 days.

Mmm hummus and brown bread and salami, hummus and carrot sticks, warm flapjacks, warn banana muffins...

Oh hello college

So last night was a bit of a disaster. First night back at college is supposed to be a fun-filled one, right? Right. If you actually get in anywhere. We never took into account that there is now one club less, (I miss you, Cuba) so the queues were ridiculous when we did venture in. One could say that we club and bar hopped because we did, we just didn't get into any of the clubs or bars we hopped to...

All the better for today though, I was up early and found some bargains in town. There is one in particular I can't believe - we took a trip to a charity shop, where my friend who had no money because she spent it all last night and hadn't been home yet asked me for a euro so she could buy a pair of sunglasses. Outside the shop she showed them to us - they are what we believe to be a real pair of Ray Bans. Shall I repeat? ONE EURO.

So, moving jealously on, I got a few bits of my own...

Hmm they were supposed to come out two beside each other, I need more practice at this.
We narrowly escaped frost bite (well, that's a bit of an exaggeration but it was very cold) by visiting a bakery where we sat beside the open fire and had pancakes with nutella and a pot of tea. Then my friends went home while my sister and I stayed for an hour, me reading Northern Lights which has to be one of the best books ever and her sketching and reading too. This perfect evening was followed by a not-so-perfect walk home in the lashing rain, clutching my purchases to my chest because the paper bag had started falling apart.

I went to my first ever jazz dancing class (with Zara and Katie) which was fun but so many new steps my god I must practice before next week!

Digitalising our lives

Today I bought my first ever digital camera. I used to like the idea of using a disposable camera - the excitement of waiting for the photos to be printed and then looking through them and finding ones you had forgotten you'd taken. I was averted to digital cameras, mainly because it irritates me when people take photo after photo to try and get the best one of themselves. It would be unnatural if you looked perfect in every picture of yourself plus, it's much more entertaining if photos catch you off-guard. Anyway, I finally realised it would be cheaper and much handier in the long-run to have a digital camera so off I went and bought one purely based on what it looked like.

There was nobody at home in the evening to take the photos for me, but this is what I wore...
